Court won't hear dispute over 'boobies' bracelets

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a Pennsylvania school district that wants to prevent students from wearing "I (heart) Boobies!" bracelets to promote breast cancer awareness among young people.
The justices on Monday left in place a federal appeals court ruling striking down a ban on the bracelets. The ban was put in place by the Easton Area School District, which says the breast-cancer awareness bracelets are lewd in their use of sexual innuendo.
The lower court sided with two students who sued the district in 2010 with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union. Easton is one of several school districts around the country to ban the bracelets, which are distributed by the nonprofit Keep A Breast Foundation of Carlsbad, Calif.

Seriously? Oh wait, I’m with The Supreme Court on their stand, which is pretty much, “please don’t waste our time with this crap” I don’t care if an adult wants to buy and wear one of those, but, and this is just my opinion, why would you, as a parent, let your grade school kid wear one?? They could care less about breast cancer. The only appeal for them is the word boobies! You know, like cussing. Like any union, the ACLU served a purpose...once.

James Degorski. Degorski, 37, was convicted in the 1993 slayings of seven people at a suburban Chicago restaurant.
CHICAGO (AP) — A former handyman serving life in prison for the 1993 murder of seven people at a suburban Chicago restaurant has been awarded nearly a half-million dollars in a civil lawsuit in which he alleged a jail guard punched him in the face.
Degorski, now 41, accused a Cook County Jail guard of punching him and breaking his cheekbone and eye socket in 2002 — just after Degorski's arrest in what had been one of the most notorious, unsolved murder cases in Illinois history.
Degorski's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, hailed the jury's decision, which came Friday after a three-day trial. "I think it's a beautiful day for civil rights when a jury can put aside emotions and say we are all entitled to our civil rights," she said. "It's about protecting the constitutional rights of the least among us."
Uh huh. THAT’S why the general law abiding public hates lawyers.

Bitcoins.
Do you know what bitcoins are? I guess in nutshell, a bitcoin is digital money. And from what I understand, it seems more like an investment. So let’s say you buy $500 worth of bitcoins. What you get in return is a code or codes. So if you want to buy something over the world wide web that accepts bitcoins, you simply enter you codes. OK, so you bought $500 worth of bitcoins on Monday. Today is Wednesday and your bitcoins are worth $1500. You could sell them and make a tidy profit, like an investment. Bitcoins aren’t backed financially by anything so if you buy $500 worth on Monday and they’re only worth $100 on Thursday, too bad for you. And if the place you bought your bitcoins mysteriously disappears Tuesday night, so does your investment. It’s all so weird.

Cursive Writing
Do you know how to write in cursive? Were you taught how to write in cursive? Do your kids know how to write cursive? Do you care?
In my neck of the woods, a State Senator has introduced a bill to make cursive writing a mandatory part of school curriculum. I don’t know. I think teachers have a whole lot more to worry about teaching than cursive writing.
