Sweet!

Well, Saturday night at the symphony was delightful! Mom and I had a lovely evening, sitting outside listening to the Glen Miller orchestra with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. I love the old big band stuff. Really, the weather could not have been any better. It sure was a welcome change from the 90's we've had all month.

I saw a sundog;
You know, those little bursts of a sort of rainbow? That's what they're called, sundogs.

They also had hot air balloon rides. I like that the balloon glowed in the dark:

That's the orchestra. If you've never been or don't know what Symphony on the Prairie is, it's a summer concert series, outdoors. Mostly it's it's the Indianapolis Symphony but there are several music events. This year they're having Big Bad Voodoo Daddy one week and The Contours, doing Motown another week. If you're a fan of American Pie, Don McLean is going to be there and the ISO is doing a tribute to the Beatles as well. All you need is a lawn chair or blanket. It's a nice way to spend an evening ~ if it's not 90 out!

I DO

Finally, I'm getting something done! I'm making the words "I DO" for my nephew and his new wife and here is the 'I'

I like the white on white and it's prettier in person :-)

The drought continues...it's getting harder and harder to keep things alive outside. Everything is struggling even though I water them almost every day. Well, everything except that stupid Hickory tree we had cut down 2 YEARS ago!!! And it's not the stump that's growing either. It's roots are growing. We got tired of cutting them off so we've let them grow for almost a month. And I'm NOT watering it but look at it...

If we let it go, I honestly believe it will turn into a forest in no time!

It's supposed to cool down a smidge this weekend but then back up to the 90's next week.
Tomorrow's high is only 88! I think it will be nice enough to go see the Glen Miller Orchestra at the outdoor symphony. I hope, I hope!

TGIF everybody!

sunny California

Ok, so there are some things that you have to like about California. Let's see; the beaches, the mountains, the weather. What else...hmmm...oh, fresh seafood and better produce at the grocery store. Anything else? Nope, I think that about covers it, right?

I brought that up because there are a few California things in the news right now. One is that some cities have declared bankruptcy. Anaheim is experiencing violent protests, L.A. wants to ban marijuana stores and this news worthy wtf idea hit the Internet today - San Francisco Area Officials Considering Per-Mile Driving Tax. Seems as though high gas prices have caused people to buy more fuel efficient cars, drive less and buy less gas. So they're loosing all that tax revenue.

I know that a lot people are die hard Californians because of the beaches, mountains and weather. And there are occasions when I miss the fresh seafood and nice winter weather, but the traffic, crime, smog, $$, taxes and politics would really make me question my choice to stay.
Changing the subject now. Do you remember this guy?

Who didn't have a crush on Chad Everett? He passed away yesterday. Sad.

*applause! cheering!*

Can you believe it? My husband actually went to the doctor today, voluntarily,  for a CHECKUP! Wow. I'm so proud of him :-) Aaaaaand, he's contemplating his feet. He has bone spurs on both of his big toes and they make walking, painful. They must really be bothering him for him to consider getting them fixed. Anyway...hooray for the man!!!!

We celebrated his bee day over the weekend. We took him to a place called The Journey. All you can eat sushi, among other things. He was a happy happy fella for sure.

I did some more quilling. I'm working on some 12 inch wood letters that I painted white and am quilling white. They say, I DO with a 12 inch heart after that. I'm making them for my nephew who is getting married this week. Hidden in the design is the date of their wedding. I think it's going to look so pretty when I'm done.

Hey Leslie, look at these!

I especially like the white ink. That's the coolest!
Every once in awhile I think I might like another one but then it flies outta my head. Don't worry Mom :-)  My niece is working on a sleeve. She just has the middle of her arm left to do. If you're my age, or older, aren't you just amazed at how prevalent tattoos are? I would be willing to bet that more women get tattoos than men. It's that whole, "women rule the world" thing. I think women really DO rule the world, but we don't need tattoos to prove it.  :-)

And one last thing...my brother and his wife just got back from week long Mexican cruise, with about 20 of their friends. If you don't know my brother, too bad for you. He's one of the nicest people I've ever known. He likes everybody. He helps anybody who needs it. He has the most cheerful attitude always. Because of all those things, he has truly great Karma. Why do I think that? Well, he's extremely lucky at things. Even things like, building a block wall between his house and his neighbors. He kind of befriended the neighbor and it turns out that he knows several people that do just that for a living. So he got a new block wall for a ridiculously low price. People are always giving him just what he needs, right when he needs it. Anywho, on the last day of the cruise, he WON a FREE 7 day cruise for 2 anywhere Carnival goes, with his bingo raffle tickets! He said it was like winning the lotto! I love him.

It's baaaaack

And it's grown quite a bit!

Bill said he was scared when he took this 2nd picture. hehehehe I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for it!

Oh, and so much for all that rain. Now, even the mighty Oak in the backyard is wilting. But the roots of the Hickory tree we had cut down TWO years ago, is growing like crazy!

Phooey

"INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis and several nearby counties have been added to the parts of Indiana listed as being in extreme drought.

The new U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday lists nearly 30 percent of Indiana as being in extreme drought. That's up from about 23 percent of the state a week ago, with much of the northeastern and southwestern part of Indiana still listed in extreme drought."

Now the expected rainfall is down to 1/2 and inch. It's better than nothing but dang!
Here's the latest picture of the local reservoir, which 5 feet below average;

On a lighter note :-) Perhaps I've gone a little overboard with my love of lime green?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Rain?

Rain? Water...falling from the sky? That rain? Yessssssssssssss. Finally ~ it's going to rain 2 and a 1/2 to 3 inches this weekend! Hooray!

Here are my latest quilling projects, completed;

I donated them to a silent auction. They're cute and cheerful looking and I was so happy hanging out in my craft/library. I love it in there!

Tomorrow there's going to be a Farmers Market behind the Statehouse. That's really nice for us because the big one downtown is kinda far to walk to on your lunch hour. I'm looking forward to seeing what they're going to have. I want tomatoes!!! Oh sure, my plant is still alive and I really am doing my best, but it's still been too hot for the poor thing. I've moved it so it's not getting as much sun but we'll see. At least I haven't seen any new activity from the mole, so the drought is nice something! But really bad for other things. Today, the Mayor declared an official ban on watering the lawn, washing your car in the driveway, etc.
One of the local reservoirs is 4 1/2 feet below average and falling another 12 inches every 5 days. C'mon rain!!

Aaaaaand, in other news...we have another baby elephant at the zoo :-)

hot hot hot

whew. We've all decided that winter is better than summer when it come to extreme temperatures. At least when it's cold, you can put more on. Plus, when it's winter and you know you can't do anything outside, you can catch up on all the 'indoor' stuff. During the summer, you ought to be able to go outside and do things. For the last couple of weeks it's been downright unbearable. And like too many gloomy rainy days, it makes people grouchy. sigh

The good news is...Sunday there's a cool down headed our way. Well, not cool down but it's going to be regular summer temperatures - which really is a cool down, sort of.

So it's another indoor weekend for most of us. I'm ok with that, there's lots to do. I can finishing painting the kitchen or I can finish painting the trim around the new doors. I can quill, I can read, I can cruise around http://www.pinterest.com/ which seems to be a new obsession of mine. All those visuals are just too hard to resist!

I see fun things....

I think that's pretty clever! I've seen knobs used for necklaces before but never drawer pulls for earrings.

 This too! What a fabu idea!

Oh ok, this was just for nostalgia :-)

This is a Christmas wreath made out of vintage ornaments! It looks like candy. mmmmmmm

I found this on Pinterest.com
This woman took a couple greeting cards given to her from her parents and had the signatures tattooed on her, after her parents had passed away. I thought that was a neat idea.

And to end with a little levity;

50 foods

This article is called, Must Try Foods in Every State

http://www.delish.com/recipes/cooking-recipes/all-american-food#slide-1

Some of them made complete sense to me, like salmon in Alaska crab cakes in Maryland.
But, Cashew Chicken in Missouri? And chocolate gravy and biscuits in Arkansas? And I have to admit, I had never heard of Sugar Cream Pie - so I asked around. Turns out it's pretty popular here in the Hoosier state. Oh, and I think it was Tennessee but I'm not sure, but there was chili - with spaghetti noodles. I know that a lot of people make their chili that way but eeeeewwww.

It was a fun article though.

1/2 a year

That's how much time has gone by so far in 2012. 6 months. Half the year!

This is what I got done this weekend - to be donated to INDOT for their silent auction;

That second one is kind of a cheat because it was so easy. Their auctio isn't until the 19th so maybe I'll do one more for them.
