I like it!!
You know, I'm not always happy with my creative works. Sometimes I think they're just OK. Like most people I suppose I'm my own worst critic. Sometimes though, I really like the way things turn out. This one for instance;
Let me point out...the inside of the UNLV is white and the outside is black. Also, the inside line of the hat is black and the outside is white. I was trying to minimize the business of it. I like it, it made me smile when I finished it.

Autumn/Winter
This transition is always so funny to me. The way people dress during the change of seasons is really something to see if you live in the Midwest. Granted, yesterday was well about the normal temp for this time of year ~ but I saw girls in shorts and flip flops. I also saw a girl in shorts with a sweater and Ugg boots on. I saw people in sweats and people in short sleeves and jeans and tank tops. I guess it's like that most of the year though. I mean, in the winter you see people bundled up like they live in North Pole when it's 40 degrees. Then you see people in clogs (w/no socks) jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt when it's 20 degrees with 6 inches of snow on the ground.
There's a cold snap comin'. Yesterday it was 80 ~ Sunday it's going to be 44.
We need to get busy with the leaf raking! Our yard is covered! Most of the trees are bare now though...this is our street;

I took that a couple days ago. This morning you couldn't see the street anymore. The first snow is right around the corner :-)

Neat
I keep forgetting this picture...one of my favorite weather things is when a really good storm is coming in and you look in one direction and it's a bright sunny day and then look in the opposite direction and it's night time! One day on my way home, I took this picture from the drivers seat in my car. Out the front windshield there are blue skies but if you look in my rear view mirror you can see how dark it is! I LOVE that!
quilling, quilling, quilling!
Here is my latest project;
It's for my cousin's first granddaughter. They have an elephant thing :-) I like my elephant footprints.
Next up, another one of these;
and one for UNLV to go with it...
I have an idea for this but I think it's going to be hard.
Then, I have the letter "M" to do for someone and then after that there's a bird to do! Busy, busy, busy! LOVE quilling :-)

Sports
This is a really great article about athletes and performance enhancing drugs;
Fun fact: The technological wizards at Peeps have cut the manufacturing time down to six minutes to make one marshmallow chick, down from 27 hours in 1953. Their wings were "clipped" in the 1950s to give them a "sleek, modern look."
Fun fact: Kisses first appeared on candy-store shelves in 1907. No one knows where the name came from but some believe the moniker mimicked either the sound or motion of the chocolate being deposited onto the conveyer belt during manufacturing
Fun fact: According to the National Confections Association, more than 35 million pounds of candy corn will be produced this year. That’s 9 billion pieces (63 billion calories), enough to circle the moon almost 21 times.
Fun Facts: The first Hershey's milk-chocolate bar rolled out in 1900, three years before ground was broken for Milton Hershey's first factory. Almonds were added to the recipe eight years later.
Fun fact: Skittles were first sold in Europe in 1974 and crossed the Atlantic to the U.S. in 1979. More than 200 million of the tiny round candies are produced every day and it can take eight hours to place the candy coating around the fruit center.
And one last thing. I bought a pair of cashmere socks, on sale last Spring. I have them on today. Ahhhhhh. Man do they feel nice around my feet! Downright luxurious.
On a lighter note, here is some trivia about one of my favorite things ~ CANDY!
Fun fact: Many people associate this candy bar with legendary baseball player Babe Ruth (the candy's web site does feature a baseball stadium), but it was actually named after President Grover Cleveland's daughter, who was often called "Baby Ruth."

Ahhhh
The weekend was very blustery outside. I only mention that because I LOVE it when it's raining leaves outside. It's one of my most favorite things :-) We even raked up 10 big bags and Bill even enjoyed it! It was the smell and the warmth yesterday that did it for him. You know I just love it all.
Other than the leaves, I didn't get a lot accomplished this weekend. I guess that's ok. I did some quilling and house chores but that was about it.
The dogs are completely on board with the doggie door now. As I suspected, for Pepper, it's life changing! She was SO afraid of it to start with that I thought it would take a couple weeks for her to "get it." Nope. On the fourth day, a little light went off in her head and now there's no stopping her. It's really quite interesting. She used to go to the door to be let out, stay out 10 minutes or so, ask to come back in and 2 minutes later ask to go back out. Since we didn't let her out every time she wanted to go, she would just lay in front of the door, staring outside. That's where she spent most of her time when we were home, laying on the floor, staring outside, waiting for one of us to let her out. Now, there's no more laying on the floor staring outside. She's either on the couch with me or Bill or in her bed. When she wants to go out, she simply gets up and walks right on out. The other interesting part is, she doesn't go out as much now that she knows she can. I think that's remarkable...that she knows. Anyway, life is much happier for little Pepper now.
Oh, and Greta? She could care less. Miss smarty pants still wants you to let her out. She's so spoiled!

I do, do you?
This is my latest quilling project. It's for my newly married nephew and his wife :-)
I'm not quiet finished yet though. I still have a big heart to do. I'll have to figure out how to take a better picture of it.
Also this weekend, we got the doggie door. It's interesting to watch them try and figure it out. Greta has gone out and come back in a few times now, by herself. All the rest of the time she needs a reminder that that's the way out now. Pepper on the other hand, won't come and go unless you hold the flap up for her. The flap is scary. I've been motivating her with food - that works. It's only been a couple days but I think they'll be just fine with it. It's going to be so fun once they make the connection, that they control when they come and go.

Geez
There's a cold snap moving in...
The low Sunday is 32. What?! Geez. I'm not ready for that yet. What happened to fall? We should have known, after a horrible summer.
I've got a 3 day weekend coming up. I love those.
Sometime this weekend we want to go look at doggie doors for sliding glass doors. Pepper's life philosophy is;
I know how dumb it is but I've already started humming holiday tunes in my head. I also LOVE IT that Hobby Lobby starts putting out their Christmas things in July! There should be more Christmas stores. Not just Christmas stores that sell Christmas ornaments and wreaths, etc. But a really giant store, like Hobby Lobby, completely devoted to all things Christmas;
trees
wrapping paper
ribbon
lights
ornaments
snow globes
wreaths
tableware
linens
glassware
snowmen and santas
scrap booking
stamps
needlework kits
fake poinsettias
crafts, crafts, crafts!
Really, wouldn't that be fantastic?!?!!?

When we are home, she needs to be able to go out and come back and check on us, as many times as she wants.
I have one more quilling project to finish, then I can move on to Christmas things! That was fun!
Now on to the next project...will it ever end??? Oh man, I hope not!! :-)

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARNESS MONTH
Because no one knows exactly what causes breast cancer, there are no sure ways to prevent it.
All women are at risk for breast cancer
Young women can and do get breast cancer, even in their 20’s
African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer than white women
One in every hundred cases of breast cancer will occur in a man
The older a woman, the more likely she is to get breast cancer
The 5-year survival rate for all women diagnosed with breast cancer is 98%!!!
About 230,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the US.
About 57,650 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the US this year
About 39,000 women will die from breast cancer this year in the US
Simply being a woman is the main risk factor for developing breast cancer
Your risk of developing breast cancer increases as you get older.
Having one first-degree relative (mother, sister, and daughter) with breast cancer approximately doubles a woman’s risk.
In the US, breast cancer is expected to be newly diagnosed every three minutes
A woman will die from breast cancer every 13 minutes
70% of all breast cancers are found through self exams
Mammograms can detect breast cancer up to two years before it is large enough to be felt
40% of ALL women with health insurance DO NOT get an annual mammogram!
Ignorance is not bliss and neither is living in fear. Being vigilant can literally save your life.
