Back to the Future II is 25 years old. Yep. It came out in 1989. Whoa. But that's not really the crazy part! I just read an article in MSN that said, Back to the Future II took place in 2015!!!
What???
See...just like I said the other day, where's my jetpack?!?! I'm not the only one that felt confident we would indeed have flying cars by 2015.
Humph.

What is Net Neutrality?
You should know. You should care. In case neither of those statements are true, here you go;
What Is Net Neutrality And Why Should I Care? The Non-Geek’s GuideJ.K. TrotterYesterday, President Obama waded into the ongoing—and somewhat confusing—debate about “net neutrality.” If you’re curious why this matters, or what “net neutrality” actually means, this explainer is for you.
What is “net neutrality”?
Net neutrality describes the idea that whoever provides you Internet access—for example, Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, and so on—should treat all of your Internet traffic, or packets of data, the same way. The U.S. agency responsible with upholding laws related to net neutrality is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is based in Washington, D.C.
You referred to ‘treating all Internet traffic the same way.’ What does that mean?
Let’s say you use Hulu and Netflix, and often switch between the two to see what’s on. Supporters of net neutrality say that your broadband Internet service provider (ISP) should not be able to charge either Netflix or Hulu, or any other company that depends on the Internet, for a faster connection to you and other customers. Nor should the ISP be able to charge you more to access certain services.
Aren’t ISPs forbidden from doing that already, though?
Well, not exactly. It’s true that ISPs have been sued in the past for artificially throttling, or limiting the speed of, customers who use peer-to-peer software like BitTorrent. (I say “artificially” because there are many non-arbitrary reasons why some downloads are slower—for example, if you’re downloading a file from a server located on a different continent.) But a recent court ruling altered the net neutrality debate entirely.
What happened?
The legal situation situation changed in January 2014, when the ISP Verizon successfully challenged a set of FCC regulations designed to implement net neutrality standards. A D.C. court gave Verizon’s broadband Internet service the leeway to disregard FCC rules regarding the blocking and/or “unreasonable discrimination” of Internet traffic.
Let’s back up a bit. What do net neutrality supporters want, exactly?
Sure. Generally speaking, supporters of net neutrality want the FCC to reclassify broadband ISPs as “common carriers,” a designation reserved for companies who are mandated by the government to provide the same service, without discrimination, to everyone. (Think about gas, or electricity, or landline telephone services.)
At present, broadband providers are classified as “information services,” which are not obligated to provide the same service to everyone. This was the crux of the aforementioned Verizon court case: Because Verizon was not classified as a “common carrier,” the FCC lacked the legal authority to regulate it like one.
What would reclassification accomplish?
Most significantly, classifying ISPs as common carriers would allow the FCC to ban what’s known as “paid prioritization.”
“Paid prioritization”?
The term refers to ISPs charging third party companies for speedier access to those ISPs’ customers. So, say your ISP is Verizon, and you use both Twitter and Facebook. If Twitter pays Verizon to “prioritize” its traffic, and Facebook does not, you would likely experience faster speeds on Twitter: Its pages and apps would load more quickly, and more reliably, than Facebook. (This is what net neutrality supporters are talking about when they discuss “slow lanes” and “fast lanes” on the Internet.)
This arrangement obviously incentivizes both Twitter and Facebook to pay Verizon to prioritize their traffic. But both sites are able to pay Verizon in the first place because they’re already enormous companies, with plenty of money to burn.
Has this actually happened, though?
It has. The streaming site Netflix recently signed deals with Comcast and Verizon to increase the speed (and quality) of their streaming video on both providers’ networks. Netflix accomplished this by connecting their servers to the ISPs’ underlying physical infrastructure.
Understandably, Netflix supports net neutrality.
But doesn’t Netflix take up a lot of bandwidth? Why shouldn’t they pay more?
It’s true that Netflix consumes an enormous amount of bandwidth—up to 34% of U.S. traffic during certain hours. But supporters of net neutrality argue that, while a huge company like Netflix can afford to pay ISPs for increased streaming speed, the same arrangement would be untenable for a much smaller competitor. In other words, paid prioritization would stack the deck against any company trying to challenge the dominance of Netflix (or Facebook, or Twitter, or Google).
And what do opponents of net neutrality argue?
The arguments against net neutrality are generally founded on a suspicion of government regulation of commerce. Most specifically: Opponents argue that if broadband ISPs cannot collect fees from companies who take up an outsized portion of their bandwidth, they lose the incentive to invest in maintaining and upgrading their current infrastructure, which could hurt consumers.
Pretty much every single ISP in the United States is stridently opposed to net neutrality. Together they’ve spent millions lobbying Congress to block its implementation.
So what has President Obama done, then?
On Monday, in response to a popular petition on WhiteHouse.gov, Obama announced that he was urging the FCC’s chairman, Tom Wheeler, to implement net neutrality rules by reclassifying ISPs as common carriers.
Should I know who Tom Wheeler is?
It wouldn’t hurt. Wheeler was appointed last year by the President, and previously served as the president of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, a private group which represents the interests of the cable broadband industry—which, again, is strongly opposed to implementing net neutrality. (The association flipped out after Obama’s announcement.)
Still, Wheeler greeted Obama’s letter fairly positively, writing that “we cannot allow broadband providers to cut special deals to prioritize Internet traffic.” But he’s also very concerned about being sued by the industry’s incumbents:
The reclassification and hybrid approaches before us raise substantive legal questions. We found we would need more time to examine these to ensure that whatever approach is taken, it can withstand any legal challenges it may face.
What happens now?
Obama does not have the authority to change the FCC’s rules, so we may be waiting on any kind of action or decision for the foreseeable future. Still, many ISPs are already sounding the alarm about the potential ramifications of Obama’s effort.
“We disagree with the President’s statement that an open Internet can only be achieved by reclassifying broadband as a public utility,” Time Warner Cable CEO Rob Marcus said in a letter echoing his industry’s broader concerns with both Obama’s agenda and the larger debate about net neutrality. Indeed, whatever the FCC decides, and eventually implements, that debate is unlikely to end anytime soon.

Embracing Rudolph!!
That right, Rudolph. That fuzzy looking stiff legged little clay reindeer with shiny red nose! Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. It's my favorite Christmas show ever! The TV show turns 50 this year. It was the first "annual" Christmas show. Followed by A Charlie Brown Christmas and How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It's the first show I ever remember watching every year. I love Rudolph and Hermey and Clarice and Yukon Cornelius and Charlie in the Box and the Bumble and...
This year the U.S. Post Office came out with Rudolph stamps!
Silly. Of course I bought some.
It makes me smile :-)

Embracing Mac and Cheese
It's one of my top 5 favorite foods. I LOVE mac & cheese! I especially love cafeteria style mac and cheese. I know it's gross, I don't care. If I could, I would eat mac & cheese a couple times a week, easy! Mmmmmm. So today I'm going embrace love for macaroni and cheese by sharing these fun facts;
Kraft Foods introduced its boxed macaroni and cheese in 1937, when America was in the throes of the Great Depression. The product could serve four for 19 cents and the company sold 8 MILLION boxes of its quick-and-easy- macaroni and cheese in a year!!
Today, more than 1 million boxes are sold daily!! DAILY!
There are 20 different options and flavors of mac & cheese.
It's the de facto national dish of Canada.
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is insanely popular in Canada. Canadians purchase nearly 12 percent of all the Kraft Mac and Cheese produced, and eat 55% more of it than Americans do! My kind of people for sure :-)

Embracing crazy
Well, not me...I'M not embracing crazy but every time I turn around I see someone who is! I think they should bring back that slogan "stop the insanity" but use it in a way that will help people see how STOOPID they are!!
Take this story for instance;
Hallmark pulled this Hanukkah wrapping paper because it was offensive. If you haven't heard/seen this story, here is the paper in question;
You can click on the picture to see it better - go ahead, check it out...
Can you see why this offensive? Here's a better look;
Oh come on! You don't see it??? Geesh! Yeah, I didn't see it either. There's a swastika in the design. NOW do you see it?
OK, I guess, maybe, if I were Jewish I might be more sensitive to design elements, but seriously? I mean, did the person who complained honestly believe that some asshole at Hallmark with an evil, secret membership to some skinhead group of nuts, created this design on purpose, with malice in their soul? Honestly?
*sigh*

Embracing marketing
Oh yeah, come on, admit it...you secretly want everything you see on infomercials! LOL
No? I guess it's just MY dirty little secret. I DO!!! I want to buy everything I see on those "as seen on TV" things! I say, "honey, check this out?" He says, "NO". Maybe I should look into becoming some kind of consumer tester, so I can have them all :-)
Yesterday I fell prey to advertising - so, I'm in my car on my way home from work listening to Chicks on the Right, and I hear this commercial...I hear this commercial everywhere every holiday season...it's for an adult beverage called RumChata. They're the dumbest commercials! Anyway, I hear them all the time, every year, so I finally caved in and stopped at the liquor store. I asked where to find it, grabbed a bottle and drove my silly self home with great anticipation. Have you ever tried this stuff?? OMG! It tasted like toasted cinnamon crunch. I might never stop drinking it!! Yummy, yummy, yummy, YUMMY.
From here on out, I'm embracing marketing and advertising - you just never know when it's going to be true and you could be missing out on something great! Bill is going to hate this!

Embracing technology
I grew up watching the Jetsons. I wanted to live that life...robots...flying cars...jet packs. I fully expected to have my own jet pack by now! Really! It is almost 2015!
And you know what else??? Not only is there chalkboard paint, which would have changed my life as child, but now there's magnetic paint!!! OMG! I could paint the whole back of the door to my library/craft-room and have tons of room for all the refrigerator magnets I'm going to have one day! That's so much better than the oil pan I'm using right now. I LOVE technology!!! This is fun stuff man!
I love all the gadgets out there. I have Photoshop. I have the coolest digital drawing pad. I have an iPhone and a Kindle and Netflix and Pandora and know how to stream them on my TV. I also bought an Amazon Fire stick for the TV in the library/craft-room. And dammit, my open mindedness won out over 1984 and when my "invitation" arrived to order Echo, I thought about it for a day and then I went for it! It came yesterday. I haven't busted it out of the box yet. I'm pretty sure my husband is going to scowl. I'm trying to think of a way that will make it appealing to him - you know, hey honey!, all you have to do is say "Echo, where is the nearest shooting range?" and it will tell you! How cool is that!? I say, pretty cool :-)
Bring it! I need more technology! It's so exciting!

Flashback Friday
This is sort of a cheat but I’m only going to ‘flashback’
to LAST Friday.
Last Friday was BLACK FRIDAY. Woooooo. I’ve only
shopped ONCE the morning of Black Friday. I never did it again. There just isn't anything I want that badly.
But Mom and I look at the ads every year while
the turkey is cooking. This year, my man was interested in the Gander Mountain
and Dick’s Sporting Goods ads.
At Gander Mountain, they had a 22 rifle and 22
handgun amo for a ridiculous price. He wanted it. Bad. There was a 5 box limit
on the amo though. So, being the totally awesome wife that I am, I actually volunteered
to get up early Friday and go with him, so I could purchase 5 boxes too. They
opened at 5AM. Which meant we would need to get up at 4:00 in the morning!
What???!!!???!!! Ugh. But hey, I could always go back to sleep when we got
home. He said, that would be great honey! But we don’t have to go early. Just,
you know, whenever we get up. HAHHAHAHAHAHA. Obviously he’s had NO Black Friday
experience. To his credit though, he caught on quickly and said OK. So, we got
up at 4AM and showed up at Gander Mountain at 10 till 5. The parking lot was
full of pickup trucks and rednecks. I laughed heartily! Oh, and there was a
line. Once inside, he decided against the rifle but we did buy 5 boxes of amo,
each. AND he got a free flashlight. He was pretty excited about that. He has a
thing for flashlights. (and watches and guns) By the number of people crowded around
the amo shelves, I’m guessing that all the 22 was gone by the time we got back
out to our pickup truck. We were
home by 5:30. Whew. Well, now we can both say we've truly shopped on
Black Friday.
I hope I didn't start something!!

the next big thing
Pantone, whoever they are, has named the color for 2015. This years color was orchid. In case you didn't know. Anyway, next years color is called Marsala. Here it is;
Meh. I probably won't rush out this Spring to buy an Autumn color. But that's just me.
Forbes magazine says that the next big thing in flavors is going to be red grapefruit and middle eastern flavors and MORE pumpkin flavoring! Yuck.
And the next big trend in fashion for 2015? I know you're dying to know right?
Over-sized tropical prints.
...all of which is SO interesting?
